How to Cross-Register
  1. Obtain the cross-registration petition form from your SMFA Registrar.
  2. Bring the completed form with the appropriate signatures to the MIT Student Services Center, Room 11-120, 77 Massachusetts Avenue. The form will be signed there on behalf of the MIT Registrar’s Office. You are not required to cross-register or be at MIT on MIT’s Registration Day. You may submit your petition before or after Registration Day, as long as you can obtain the MIT instructor’s signature and meet deadlines. The Student Services Center is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Wednesday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Forms should be delivered in person. Please do not put your form in the mail or give it to a classmate to deliver.
  3. You will be asked to complete a biographic form at the Student Services Center. This form is required as it provides the MIT Registrar’s Office with the information necessary to create your student record and register you for the MIT subject. You may fill out the biographic form online, print it, and bring it to the Student Services Center with your cross-registration petition.
  4. It is your responsibility to return the SMFA Registrar’s copy to the appropriate office. You are not considered registered until the petition is on file at both MIT and SMFA.
  5. Obtain an MIT ID Card from the MIT Card Office in the basement of the Stratton Student Center, W20-021. You will need to present a valid picture ID (a passport or US Government issued ID, such as a driver's license) when requesting an MIT Card. Driver's licenses from foreign countries, college/university IDs from other institutions, credit/bank cards, or insurance cards are not accepted. After submitting your biographic form at the Student Services Center, you must wait until the next business day to obtain your MIT ID Card.
  6. Obtain an MIT email (Athena) account and install MIT web certificates on your browser. These will enable you to access your personal MIT records on WebSIS and participate in MIT’s subject evaluation process.
Follow these steps:
- Go to Athena Account Registration and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Install MIT web certificates using your Kerberos username and password and your MIT ID number.

Once you obtain your certificates please go to WebSIS and provide your emergency contact information
