After Hours Care: To contact a health provider after hours for urgent care call Simmons Public Safety at 617-521-1112 and ask them to contact the health care provider on call.

The Museum School provides health services for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students through the Simmons College Health Center located on the nearby Simmons College residence campus. The Health Center provides primary medical care on site, and refers students who require specialty care to providers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard teaching hospital.
 
The Museum School's student health insurance, offered through Consolidated Health Plans, covers the entire cost of your visit to the Health Center with no co-payments or deductibles. If you are covered by any other insurance plan you are welcome to use the Simmons College Health Center, but you must pay at the time of your visit. The Health Center can provide you with a receipt for your visit that you may later submit to your insurer for reimbursement.

 
Services are available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day during the academic year either at the Center, or when the Center is closed, by telephone contact with the provider on call. Some services are also available in the summer. The Simmons health center is staffed by registered nurses, nurse practitioners and Board Certified physicians.

 

Services available include:

  • Diagnosis and treatment of illness and injuries 
  • Emergency contraception ("Morning After" pills) 
  • Immunizations 
  • Gynecological care including: routine gynecological exams; contraception; diagnosis and treatment of gynecological illness; pregnancy testing
  • Physical exams
  • Management of chronic disease, including asthma
  • Nutritional counseling

Wednesday & Friday: 11am – 3pm
Closed Tuesday & Thursday

A health care provider is on call for urgent care whenever the Health Center is closed. Contact Public Safety @ 617-521-1112 to reach the provider on-call.

If you are a graduate student and have signed up for the school's Health Insurance, your primary health care provider is on the Tufts Campus.


All matriculated students at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, have access to the School’s Counseling and Mental Health Service (CMHS). The CMHS is a service located on-site at the Museum School and is facilitated through a partnership with Boston Institute of Psychotherapy (BIP). CMHS counselors are licensed professionals who have private practices, and who bring a wide and diverse range of specialties and experiences.

CMHS services are free for our students. Counselors are available Monday – Friday for scheduled appointments (drop in hours are available); services are offered to students during the academic year (September –May). All sessions are confidential. When appropriate, CMHS staff will refer students to qualified community resources for ongoing or specialized care.

Frequent counseling concerns addressed through CMHS include: adjusting to college; alcohol and drug issues; anxiety and/or depression; artists block, bereavement; dealing with life transitions; eating and body image; family issues or conflicts; isolation and/or loneliness; psychopharmacology; relationship issues; sexuality/sexual orientation; stress; time management; and more.

Marino Fitness Center at Northeastern University

The Museum School has partnered with Northeastern University (NU) for access to the Marino Center Fitness Facility for the very attractive rate of $325 for the academic year (September 1 - May 14); that averages out to only $36 a month! This gives Museum School students access to state-of-the-art equipment and fitness facilities just minutes away from 230 The Fenway. For cost, convenience, and the quality of these facilities, this is a deal that can’t be beat!

What does Membership Include?
Membership includes full access to the Marino Center (note: special classes such as aerobics, yoga or personal training are available for an additional cost), Squashbusters facility, and Cabot Gym (includes access to a 6-lane indoor swimming pool); membership does not include participation in NU intramurals.
 
What are the terms of membership?
Membership begins September 1 and runs through May 14. You can join anytime during the semester but the rate will NOT be pro-rated regardless of the start date (i.e. no matter when you sign up it the cost will be $325).

Participants are required to sign a waiver and code of conduct agreement; compliance with all NU rules and regulations is required at all times. Violations of the code of conduct are subject to NU policies, including the right to terminate membership if deemed appropriate. Only students who are matriculated and enrolled in day classes are eligible for this benefit.

How do I join?
Membership for the Fall term begins September 1. Payment must be made in person to the SMFA Business office before membership can begin; payment must be made in full; partial or monthly payments are not possible.  Payment may be made in cash, by check (made out to: SMFA) or with a credit card (Visa or MasterCard). NOTE: it is NOT possible to include the gym membership in the Museum School billing amount.
If you are interested in touring the NU facility you may do so by going to the Marino Center service desk at 360 Huntington Avenue; please indicate that you are a Museum School student when requesting the tour.

The YMCA of Greater Boston offers a deep student discount to Museum School students at the Huntington Avenue branch.


Tufts University Athletic Facilities

Students who are enrolled in one of the degree-granting programs may take advantage of the Tufts Athletics Department and participate in any activity or club as well as access the numerous athletic facilities on the Tufts campus.


Consolidated Health Plans and School of the Museum of Fine Arts have customized this student health insurance plan to meet the needs of undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students.
